While exploring said Mexico wines, stumble upon the utter coolness that is Tresomm, founded by 3 buddies and badass somms (ie Tres Somms) that you might recognize Taylor Grant, Conner Mitchell, and Master Sommelier Chris Miller, and buy what you see. The winery was founded just a couple of years ago (2017) when the three friends were traveling around in Baja California (Vallee de Guadalupe to be exact) and realized all the fun and surprisingly modern winemaking techniques that were going down there.
The vineyard plot that these wines are sourced from is sustainably-focused, dry-farmed, and tucked into a northern mini-valley where cool air collects, separating it from the main area of The Valle de Guadalupe. Although Touriga Nacional is usually used in the production of Port, this expression showcases the depth and range that is can carry. Full-bodied, nonetheless, but the intricacies of the ground pepper, ground coffee, and tobacco make it super rustic and impressive. If you haven’t tasted Mexican wine, this is probably the best you’ll have and an incredible starting point.
