Our family produces Muscadet since 1670. We brought the mastery from Burgundy and work with passion since more than 300 years.
The Chon family were originally Burgundian winegrowers during the mid-late 17th century before Mathurin Chon left for ‘la Cote Atlantique’ in 1719, no doubt with an armful of ‘Melon de Bourgogne‘ cuttings, to set up among the Pays Nantais at St. Julien de Concelles. Nearly three centuries later his descendants Gilbert Chon and Fils continue the family tradition with 60 hectares of vines on granite and schist soils. From his plantings of Melon de Bourgogne, some planted during the 1930s, Jean-Gilbert Chon produces four styles of Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie, and also has planted Folle Blanche, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Franc. Viticulture and vinification are traditional, using glass/epoxy lined cement tanks; Sustainable practices are used in the vineyards and in the winery.
