Once upon a time …. A family, a story, a soil, a wine:
MAYOL : Thousands of years of history in arboriculture and especially in viticulture. The Domaine de Mayol ; located in the communes of Apt and Bonnieux, at the bottom of the Rhône Valley in the Vaucluse : the heart of Provence ; nestles in the Luberon regional park. Installed on the site of a Roman « villa » (agricultural farm), found during the restructuring of the vineyard, attesting to the Gallo-Roman origin of the place ; making of this place privileged by nature a place of high culture of wine. The Domain owes its name to Dom MAYEUL ; fourth Abbot of Cluny in Burgundy, owner of immense estates according to the cartular of the church of Apt. According to it, the vineyard holds a very important place since more than fifty charters relate only to the vine, its planting, its cultivation methods or its property. Bernard VIGUIER, his indirect descendant, and Karine GIANTI VIGUIER trie to work traditionally and naturally to preserve this tradition of the vine ; so as to increase ceaselessly the quality and keeping the spirit of the tradition of local wines. Wines of the Luberon are wines in aromas and in unforgettable bouquets. It seems logical when we know what this soil produced next to the wines : Truffles, olives, fruits, lavander, thym ... In organic farming, interspersed with apricots, cherry trees and olive trees, a part of the vineyard, planted on silico-marl soil, enjoys a Mediterranean type climate characterized by exceptional sunshine ; making t...his terroir the ideal setting for our rosés and reds. The hilly relief of the Haut Luberon with its marno-limestone soil and its multitude of microclimates promotes the cultivation of the vine ; only reserved for our white grape varieties. The Luberon is a land of fragrances, in which the roots of the vines draw to extract a thousand scents and the sunshine that the vineyard enjoys adds to these nectars structure, depth and length. The work of the land is privileged, in order to preserve the freshness of lean soils forcing the vine to take root deeply. Built several hundred years ago, the winery has evolved perfectly over the years and continues to evolve, with modern tools essential to the production of quality wines. The Domaine cultivates its passion to give you unique emotions ; it embodies Tradition but part of its cuvées and vintages reflect Modernity, which will only be the fruit of yesterday’s innovation.
